Meet Alston C. Lundgren, MD

Alston Lundgren, MDAs a practicing Family Physician for over 25 years, I have see a number of important and revolutionary medical advances – in treatments and in prescription medications. Those advances have had a positive effect on our lives. In many cases it is no longer necessary to continually endure the disability or pain associated with certain conditions.

For most medical conditions, I have several treatment options. I will try to chose the one that in my opinion is most likely to give you the best results in the shortest time. These options include medications, surgery, physical therapy, manipulation, breathing exercises, and at least 18 different varieties of acupuncture.

In Europe, where significant gains in patient care can be seen, only licensed Medical Doctors practice acupuncture. Medical acupuncture has its roots in classic Chinese acupuncture. However, it is the result of 200 years of investigation, refinement and development by European and North American medical practitioners. It is a scientific and integrated approach for treating medical conditions. Medical doctors who practice acupuncture can suggest the most effective treatment for the conditions we see. Treatments recommended could be traditional Western medical intervention (including prescription medications or surgery), physical modalities such as massage, Chiropractic or Osteopathic manipulation and physical therapy; one of many types of acupuncture or a combination of these. Each discipline in which we are trained informs and enhances the others.

As an American-educated Medical Doctor (MD), I integrate medical acupuncture into my practice of treating the entire body. My MD and Family Practice Residency were from the University of Minnesota Medical School and medical acupuncture training initially form UCLA followed by many workshops in Canada, England and the US. Basically it works like this: stimulating nerves causes release of naturally occuring neurotransmitters. Those include endorphins, hormones and immune system helper cells. By intervening at specific points in the body, imbalances can be overcome, inducing changes such as less pain, increased function, and reduced stress.

If you and I together determine that I can help you, I will suggest a plan of treatment. If I cannot help you, I will suggest other appropriate options. If you wish to use me only as a consultant, I will gladly keep your personal physician fully informed of suggested treatments and your response to them.

As a physician, I am listed as a network provider for most insurance plans. That is usually as a Family Physician – because there are so few physicians practicing medical acupuncture that it is not a separate category. Coverage for specific treatments depends on your individual policy.

First and foremost, I am a physician, concerned with the overall well being of my patients. I want to help you get the best treatment for whatever conditions bother you. I hope you will allow me that opportunity. For a consultation I invite you to make an appointment by calling 505-986-0910 or for brief issues, e-mail me at:

Sincerely,
Alston C. Lundgren, MD
